The main pool hall consists of an eight lane 25 metre pool with grandstand seating, a large beach entry leisure pool with four 25 metre swim lanes including a river ride with spa and a toddler pool. Special features include a water slide, spa and steam room area.
The centre is managed by the City of Albany Council with an approach to sustainability and the reduction of energy use, where ever possible. Investigating various options to achieve the above at the eight lane 25 metre pool area where artificial lights were required throughout daylight hours adding considerably to the energy use in the total complex.
Installation of eight Solatube Skyvault M74 Units to flood the required area with natural daylight enabling artificial/electric lights to be turned OFF during daylight hours.
A site inspection by Solatube and their Commercial Distributor/Installer GES – Perth was assessed and from data collected a proposal was submitted to Council for consideration.
The proposal consisted of a detailed Daylighting Design, utilising the Skyvault M74 units which showed grid spacing of units, achievable Lux levels at pool level and competitive pricing. Albany Council proceeded with installation and a post Install report showed improvements in lighting levels. The report was produced after collecting Pre and Post Install data analysis.
The City of Albany is now considering other possible applications of the Solatube solution for other areas within this complex and other facilities.
