Disadvantages of the shaft-less LED Light over natural light firstly are discomfort and glare. Because LED light is so concentrated and has high blue content, it can cause severe glare, resulting in pupillary constriction in the eyes. Blue light scatters more in the human eye than the longer wavelengths of yellow and red, and sufficient levels can damage the retina.
Manufacturers and integrators of lighting systems using LEDs are encouraged to use optics or diffusers, so that the beams of light emitted by the LEDs cannot be seen directly, to avoid glare. Whilst shaft-less LED lights overcome some of the disadvantages of traditional skylights they provide none of the benefits of natural light. There are many copycat skylight products on the market in Australia. I had a 600mm solartube fitted about 13 years ago, and dome and diffuser have perished. Im wondering if you still sell this size? Thanks
Hi Mark, Can you double check the manufacture of this product. Solatube Australia do not offer a 600mm tube skylight in homes as they usually provide too much light for the space. If this is a Flexi duct tube skylight it will not be manufactured by Solatube Australia and our 600 dome is unlikely to fit the product.
This is interesting. According to your article, Solatube daylight system has all the benefits lacking in shaftless solar LED lights yet still conserve energy. It’s incredible that Solatube can meet industry standards while providing natural light that reduces depression, eye strain, and improves productivity and colour rendition without transferring heat nor leaking. The system surely overcomes the disadvantages of the traditional skylights, and with a longer warranty of ten years, I can easily find the idea easier to discuss with the building designer I am engaging with.
